Windows Without Curtains

Today has begun.

It’s still dark outside; the first light of sunrise will come when it’s ready.

My mug of sipping-hot coffee in hand, I am curled up in my comfy chair where I can keep an eye on the south bank of windows. As with the rest of the house, there are no curtains or blinds to hinder my view.

There’s nothing to see yet, unless you count the reflection. Everything in the living room and kitchen, including me sitting in my chair, seem to be hovering just outside the windows. The reflections will slowly fade as first light begins to illuminate what my windows will reveal, a reward for my patience. Even now, dark forms have evolved into fir trees with snow-laden branches. The whirls of snow validate the weather forecast for today. The snow has begun to accumulate.

As I grow older, I am increasingly aware that my todays come only once and last such a short 24 hours. I try to appreciate the gift that they are, and what they bring.

I hope you will enjoy “looking out of my windows” through my website.

The window to my Yesterdays reveals my newspaper columns written several years ago. Maybe this window will reveal something familiar or compelling for you that relates to your own Yesterdays.

The window to the Photo Gallery is actually a photo lens. A few are purposeful photos of noxious weeds for my OUTLAW WEEDS OF THE WEST, (a book about noxious weeds as an environmental threat). Other images are products of the three “critter cams” (Bushnell Trophy cameras) located near game trails and elevated beehives around our property. Some photos are gifts from neighbors to share.

My book, OUTLAW WEEDS OF THE WEST, is a window into the significant environmental threat that noxious weeds pose. While it is written for 4th to 6th-grade readers, it is a book for adults as well.

By the way, what is outside your window?

Karen, your vivid description of looking out, in the comfort and protection of your home from the wonder and symmetry of nature around you, reminds me of the times our Lord, when He had been exhausted from encouraging people everywhere to believe in Him: up every morning early, going to all the towns in his region and constantly being dogged by his enemies. After so much of this, He would go away by Himself into the recesses of a mountain area, pray, rest, and be restored. Most people today want to take a pill, armed with feelings of entitlement to try to relax, when you, on the other hand, have described for us, what really works! “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.” “Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge” (Ps.19:1-2). Also, your photo gallery is accompanied by God’s created order of speech and the night pictures show knowledge to the meditative observer! “Walk on, Believer!” Dr. and Mrs. Krautter

Our beautiful Pinal Mountains bear swatches of snow. The house across the street obstructs the view, as do telephone wires and a pole. Still, we do love and appreciate this view from our home of 50 + years.
